#6 CONTAINMENT; WHY

EDITION 3/3

The sixth KLAYRock : EXPERIMENTS collection explores concepts around the constant struggle between respecting societal expectations vs conformity.

We, as human beings have a need for community, and for communities to function as intended, members are expected to co-operate and communicate with others; Modern society has elevated these expectations to new levels, requiring one to reach out beyond one’s means in order to meet societal expectations - often to the detriment of one’s self and happiness.

Physical conditioning, material possessions, status - are all characteristics of society and all carry certain levels of expectations that one must meet in order to be accepted. But when does “belonging” start become “conforming"?”

Why can’t we just break free of these expectations? If we do, would we be happy? These are questions that we are constantly asking ourselves - would living free of expectations lead to happiness? Or is it just better to remain “contained” within the boundaries of societal norms?

CONTAINMENT; WHY

3 OF 3

The CONTAINMENT; WHY collection is a visually stunning, limited series of 3 digital sculptures that explore themes of personal freedom, expression and the constant pursuit of happiness. Our protagonist ponders in thought, mid-escape from his societal containment, contemplating - whether escape will actually lead to happiness.

The collection consists of 3 editions, each stunningly detailed, utilizing combinations of photo-realistic 3D rendering and hand painted accents. The #1 edition is an exploration of compositional video art; combining subtle animation accompanied by a musical composition designed to complement the contrasting visuals.

Editions #2 and #3 continue the stunning photo-realistic visuals, with edition #2 depicting the fragile containment that is society, while edition #3 depicts our hero in thought, mid-escape from his containment.

We may not be happy having to continuously strive for more, but would we necessarily be happier if we were to stop?
